WHAT IS THE DEFINITION OF SIN 09 23 09

THE PROBLEM TODAY IS: NO ONE IN SOCIETY WANTS TO TALK ABOUT SIN.

Our culture has really declared war on SIN, because they don’t want anything defined as sin. Everything is just a lifestyle choice. Nothing is a sin.

‘IT’S NOT YOUR FAULT.”

The different point of view about sin

  1. The Jewish point of view about ORGINIAL SIN.
  2. Christian Science tell us that sin is an illusion.
  3. The liberals tell us that sin is simply finiteness; to be human is to get it wrong.
  4. The dualistic philosophers tell that sin is the flesh, as contrasting to the spirit.

LET ME GIVE YOU A DEFINITION OF SIN:

  • Sin is any personal lack of compliance to the moral character of God, or the law of God.
  • The sin is a temperament of the heart
    1. It is a bent
    2. It thinks evil
    3. It speaks evil; it acts evil
    4. It omits good.
  • There are four ways you sin then:
    1. By thinking evil,
    2. speaking evil,
    3. performing evil and
    4. omitting good.

Sin when you do, when you say, when you think, or when you don’t do, say, think what God commands you to.

So it is commission.

FIVE QUESTIONS

1. WHAT IS SIN?

2. What is sin like?

3. How many people does sin Affect?

4. What does sin do for us?

5. How did sin come to influence us?

WHAT IS SIN?

(note the above definition)

I John 3:4 and Romans 14:23

  1. When you do something that goes against real trust and faith in God
  2. When you know to do right and don’t do it
  3. When you know something pleases God, commands, you don’t do it
  4. All unrighteousness
  5. Lawlessness.
  6. Is going away from the limits that God has established

What is our standard for what is evil?

Once it was established by the Bible.

But that is changing today.

To the point it is harder and harder to define morality.

There will be a day when no one will be able to walk into a court and hold up a standard.

The standard for morality, righteousness, and unrighteousness is Scripture. If there are no standards then we have no definition of sin.

THE NATURE OF SIN . What characterizes sin?

1 Sin is corrupt.

 It is a poison

It is ugliness across the face of beauty

I Kings 8:38, Zechariah 3:3,  Ezekiel 20:43 ,2 Corinthians 7

2 Rebellion

A life of uprising

Leviticus 26:27, Jeremiah 44:17

3 Ingratitude

Thanklessness, ungratefulness

Acts 17:28, Romans 1:21
